– I hope to take the place of Sergio Busquets in Barcelona

Like several others who were taken out from the Equinor’s talent camp this year, Kristian Lorentzen has a background from NF Academy. In this interview, he reveals his training methods and plans for the future.

At the beginning of the year, the coronavirus had turned football-Norway upside down, but before the state of emergency became a fact, Norway’s most promising players were taken to the Equinor’s talent camp, which was to take off in Sarpsborg at the end of March.

Among the selected, as many as 11 players were former NF Academy participants. This represents a share of more than 10 per cent and shows that our investment model is producing results.

In this interview, one of the country’s best players, from the 2006 generation, talks about his experiences with NF Academy. Kristian Lorentzen, who plays for Kvik Halden on a daily basis, has trained regularly with us throughout the winter at Team Training and has also participated in three tournaments with our tournament teams.

He says that the challenges in NF Academy forced him to adapt to a higher level, which in turn made him a better football player.

And Lorentzen is still evolving. He intends to get better, much better! Here you can read about how he intends to become so good that someday Sergio Busquets himself will have to give up his midfield place in favour of the young boy from Halden.

Here you can sign up for the NF Academy events, of which Kristian Lorentzen has also been apart.

NF Academy Player Kristian Lorentzen
OVERVIEW: Kristian Lorentzen has many qualities as a football player, but maintains his overview as his foremost characteristic.

Hi Kristian! Congratulations on your place at Equinor’s talent camp! Were you surprised when you saw the outcome?

Thank you so much for that! I was not surprised, but I was not sure I would be taken out either. I knew I had done well on the circuit team and had a good feeling after the last circuit tournament which was probably decisive for the draw. Unfortunately, the camp has now been cancelled due to the coronavirus, but I hope to be taken out to the next camp.

What have you done to be so good?

I have enjoyed football and trained a lot. My dad started playing football with me when I was one year old. We were out playing in all kinds of weather. I have also had many friends who enjoyed playing football. We have mostly played football in all the free minutes at school up to now.

I started in Kvik Halden when I was 5 and have also participated in other activities such as skiing, volleyball, handball, basketball, hockey, wrestling and running. I also train strength daily and I do injury prevention movement training, in addition to self-training with a ball. In recent years, I have always set goals for every single training and I am constantly taking new steps, which in turn provides extra motivation.

HUGE SUPPORT: For Kristian, the support from his dad, Trygve Lorentzen, was a major factor in his career.

Has NF Academy made you a better football player? If so, how?

NF Academy has clearly made me a better player and also made me grow as a person. I have become accustomed to playing with new players and have learned to adapt to the way NF Academy wants to play, which is a little different from what I am used to on the club team.

In addition, I have become more experienced by playing on cups, having good preparations and recovery and also staying in rooms with others I do not know very well in the first place. I have also made many good friends! I have met many of the NF players as opponents in the tournaments and in-circuit matches.

How far do you hope to get as a football player?

I hope to be able to take the place of Sergio Busquets in Barcelona. So it should be possible to play for the national team as well. It will require full effort, good planning and at the same time that I continue to love football as much as I do now.
